Farmers demand construction of small dams in Waziristan

Local farmers and citizens demanded construction of small dams in Wana in Lower South Waziristan. Due to the lack of small dams in Wana, Lower South Waziristan District, the orchards of fruit trees are feared to dry up. According to the report, local tribal people thousands of fruit trees not only in orchards every year, rather, thousands of trucks loaded with different fruits and vegetables are sent from here every year to be sold in different markets of the country.

Local citizens said, but unfortunately, the farmers and cultivators here are very worried due to the continuous fall of the water level for the past several years. Farmers told Dawn that if the Provincial Government Khyber Pakhtunkhowa takes steps to build emergency basis small dams and check dams to store rainwater, the water level will rise. Farmers further said that if the dams are not constructed in time, there is a risk of the gardens here drying up.

Said local farmer Raz Mohammad that the district of Lower South Waziristan is a fertile agricultural area, especially apples, potatoes, apricots and peaches are known throughout the country for their sweetness. However, due to the lack of small dams and check dams, they are facing serious problems due to the fall in the water level. On the other hand, South Waziristan Lower SDO Zia Uddin said that the issue of water in Wana is serious but we are trying our best that small dams and check dams should be constructed in Wana to solve the water table problem in Wana. The residents here say, that in order to control the falling water level, the government should approve small dams and check dams here on an emergency basis, which will not only control the water level, rather.
