RIYADH – Saudi Arabia and Gulf nations are easing Islamic rules as part of broader modernization efforts and now reports related to Alcohol Sales surfaced online.

Several reports in international media claimed landmark shift in policy, claiming that KSA is set to revoke long-standing ban on alcohol at designated tourist venues starting in 2026 ahead of World Cup 2034.

Saudi Arabia Alcohol Ban

The claim about KSA lifting its alcohol ban in 2026 is unconfirmed so far. Recent reports suggest limited sales in tourist zones may be considered, but Saudi official denied these plans on May 26, 2025.

The move raised eyebrows as the ban in place since 1952 is rooted in Islamic law, and any change is sensitive. While a diplomat-only shop opened in 2024, no evidence supports a broader lift. Vision 2030 and events like the 2034 World Cup fuel speculation, but official denials and cultural factors suggest the ban remains.

Under the new regulations, approximately 600 locations — including luxury hotels, five-star resorts, and exclusive tourism developments — will be licensed to serve alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, and cider. Spirits and drinks with more than 20% alcohol content will remain strictly prohibited.

As per available information, alcohol sales will only occur in strictly controlled environments, operated by trained and licensed staff. Booze will not be available in public places, fan zones, homes, or general retail outlets. The rollout is expected to focus on major developments like NEOM, Sindalah Island, and the Red Sea Project — flagship destinations.

The announcement follows months of speculation and comes in contrast to previous statements by Saudi officials.
