Facebook tests video-first redesign to rival TikTok and YouTube Shorts

Facebook Instagram Services Face Disruption In Pakistan Parts Of World

Meta is testing a major redesign of Facebook that could significantly change the way users interact with the social media platform.

Under the proposed changes, Facebook would move away from its traditional text- and photo-focused News Feed and place greater emphasis on video content, bringing the platform closer to the viewing experience offered by TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

According to reports, Meta is currently testing a redesigned Facebook interface in which users would see a full-screen video feed when they open the app instead of the conventional News Feed.

The trial is initially being conducted among a limited group of users in India, with Meta seeking to determine how people respond to the video-first experience.

Users included in the test will reportedly have the option to switch back to the existing Facebook design. The traditional feed will also remain accessible through a secondary tab in the app’s navigation.

The proposed change mirrors a format that helped TikTok transform short-form video consumption. On TikTok, users are immediately presented with full-screen videos when they open the app, allowing them to continuously scroll through recommended content.

Meta’s move indicates that Facebook could increasingly prioritise video as it seeks to compete more directly with platforms built around short-form content.

However, it remains unclear when, or whether, the redesigned interface will be rolled out globally. If the trial proves successful, Meta could gradually expand the video-first experience to users in other markets.

The company has not yet announced a timeline for a wider rollout.
