Brighton and Hove Albion extended their surprise recent domination of Liverpool to the FA Cup, knocking out the defending champions from the competition in the 4th round at home.

Lewis Dunk and Kaoru Mitoma scored for the hosts during their 2-1 win after Harvey Elliot had given them the lead.

Brighton, who had scored three goals against Liverpool in each of their last two encounters, took the game to the FA Cup holders once again.

After a lively start for both sides with chances for each team, it was Elliot who gave the Reds the lead with a goal in his second consecutive FA Cup game in the 30th minute. Mohamed Salah set up his forward line partner after a surging run on Brighton’s left side before placing an inch-perfect pass for Elliot to smash home past Jason Steele.

Their lead would last just 9 minutes as Dunk inadvertently deflected the ball past Allison after Tariq Lamptey attempted a long-range strike.

After a more conservative second half, Brighton finally found their winner in the second minute of added time when Mitoma expertly controlled a free-kick heading his way before unleashing a strike past Liverpool’s keeper that stood after a VAR check.

With little time left on the clock, Brighton saw off the game to go undefeated against Liverpool this season with two wins and a draw from their three games.
