The public at large has expressed dismay and anger at the alleged widespread mismanagement and corruption in the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department.

They have also accused officials of the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department of minting money from taxpayers through blackmailing and causing damage to the public exchequer by reducing the actual tax.

During a survey conducted by Pakistan Observer, a number of taxpayers blamed that apart from two E&T inspectors Faisal Aziz and Mohammad Hussain, ETO Ansar Abbas has also been involved in corruption.

They were of the view that ETO Ansar Abbas Shah has been involved in extorting money from taxpayer through blackmailing by preparing fake bills, adding that the officer has caused irreparable damage to the national exchequer fro petty gains.

A complaint, seeking not to be named, informed that an inquiry had been conducted by the department against the officer, which had corroborated wrongdoing complaints against him, adding that however, no action could be taken on the report of the inquiry.

When contacted Ansar Abbas Shah denied the allegations and said “whatever they do, is done with the knowledge of high-up.”

When the Director Excise and Taxation Faisalabad and the Director General Excise and Taxation were contacted for comment, they expressed ignorance about the inquiry reports and corruption.

When attempted to contact Punjab Minister for Excise and Taxation Hafiz Mumtaz, he did not pick the call despite repeated attempts.

On the contrary, the survey team of Pakistan Observer obtained the documents of the inquiries.
