Occupied Jammu and Kashmir is experiencing a concerning shift in its weather patterns and the recent events have raised alarm bells among environmentalists and locals alike, as erratic weather becomes an undeniable sign of global warming’s impact on this once-stable climate.
According to Kashmir Media Service, an expert said, over the past few years, Kashmir has witnessed a series of unusual weather events, including unseasonal rains, unpredictable temperature fluctuations, and an alarming increase in extreme weather incidents. The traditionally predictable climate of the region, characterized by distinct seasons, has become increasingly erratic, leaving residents and experts alike puzzled, he added.
He said, “The erratic weather we are witnessing in Kashmir is undoubtedly linked to global warming. The rise in greenhouse gas emissions is altering weather systems, and our beloved Kashmir is not immune to these changes.”
Farmers in the region are also grappling with the consequences of unpredictable weather. Unseasonal rains and temperature fluctuations have disrupted traditional agricultural calendars, affecting crop yields and livelihoods. The apple orchards, a vital part of Kashmir’s economy, are particularly vulnerable to these changing conditions.
Local environmental organizations are intensifying their efforts to raise awareness about the impacts of climate change and advocate for sustainable practices.
As Kashmir grapples with the consequences of erratic weather patterns, the need for urgent action to address global warming becomes increasingly apparent. The region, often referred to as “Paradise on Earth,” serves as a poignant reminder that the impacts of climate change spare no corner of the globe, demanding a united and concerted effort to safeguard our planet for future generations.—KMS
