Turkish President Recip Tayyip Erdogan has questioned the silence of the world community over injustice and occupation in one part of the world while ignoring injustice in other part of the world.
Speaking at Antalya Diplomatic Forum on Friday President Erdogan said that the world is greater than five (big powers) and called for a real reform and restructuring of the UN Security Council and criticised the veto powers of permanent members. He called the system of permenent members who can veto anything that doesn’t suit them whole temporary members had to go along with it.
President Erdogan said that while Crimea was occupied the international community failed to raise their voice in 2014. Referring to Ukraine crisis President Erdogan reminded the delegated that “Turkiye can never disregard acts of aggression against sovereignty of a neighboring country”.
Turkish President pleaded to the world nations to sincerily work for peace and security of the people. He also strongly criticized the role of the United Nations’ failure to properly address the sufferings people in volatile areas.
A four-member delegation from Pakistan led by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, ex-Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Dr. Tughral Yamin and Dr. Maria Effendi had been in Antalya to attend the 8th Istanbul Mediation Conference. Addressing the high-profile participants including dozens of heads of states, foreign ministers and experts.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the Russian attack on Ukraine will change many things not only in Europe, but also around the world. Highlighting that conflicts are getting more complicated, Cavusoglu said, “Unfortunately, the international system cannot adapt to the changing security environment and new challenges.”
Antalya Conference is officially been attended by 12 heads of state, 15 leaders, including three heads of government, 67 ministers, six deputy ministers, and secretaries of 44 regional and international organizations, including NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg along with international actors, diplomats, business leaders, academics, members of think tanks. Topics such as democratic governance, energy security, artificial intelligence, metaverse, racism, fight against discrimination, development of Africa, Asia-pacific region, fight against disinformation, irregular migration, fight against terrorism, empowering women, climate change and reconsidering European security will also be discussed at the forum.
