Frustration over prolonged loadshedding reached a boiling point as enraged citizens stormed the K-Electric (KE) customer care centre on Abul Hassan Isphani Road, forcing staff to flee. The protesters, chanting slogans against KE, pelted stones at the centre, shattering windows. The demonstration erupted in response to the escalating power crisis in Karachi, with residents demanding an end to frequent power outages.
The protest led to the blockade of both sides of the road, resulting in a massive traffic jam. In the chaos, KE staff abandoned their office, leaving the protesters to express their anger. The incident followed a series of protests across Karachi, where citizens have been voicing their frustration over the lack of electricity and water. A day earlier, residents staged sit-ins in various city areas, including North Karachi Power House Chowrangi and Gulzar-e-Hijri Scheme 33, blocking traffic and setting tires on fire. Protesters at Nagan Chowrangi and Surjani Town demanded an end to loadshedding and cable faults, chanting slogans against KE.
Simultaneously, residents of Scheme 33, PCSIR Society, and the Sachal area took to the streets to protest against the non-availability of water. They blocked traffic and chanted slogans against the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, demanding immediate water supply.
Tires and other objects were set ablaze, causing traffic jams and long queues of vehicles. These protests underscore the deepening crisis in Karachi, where power and water shortages have severely impacted daily life, prompting residents to take drastic measures in search of relief.
