The government has accelerated consultations with all four provinces as part of a nationwide effort to promote energy conservation amid growing demand and limited resources. The move comes as authorities emphasize the urgent need to reduce energy consumption and prevent further strain on the power sector.
According to sources, provincial governments have been actively engaging with chambers of commerce and various trade organizations to gather feedback on proposed measures. At the same time, relevant data is being collected from electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) to ensure that any policy decision is based on accurate consumption patterns and operational realities.
One of the key proposals under consideration is the introduction of revised business hours for markets, shops, and commercial zones. Under this plan, commercial activities would be limited to between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
The proposed schedule could be implemented across the country for a temporary period of one to two months as part of a broader energy-saving campaign. Officials in the Ministry of Energy believe that this initiative will represent a meaningful contribution from the business community, similar to the sacrifices already made by the cabinet and government employees through salary adjustments and reduced fuel usage.
