LAHORE – Taxes collected on electricity bills have become a major source of income for the government.
Over the past three years, the consumers have contributed 1.41 trillion rupees in tax revenue.
According to documents, the tax collection rate on electricity bills doubled during the last two years, with over 345 billion collected from electricity consumers in 2021, 461 billion in 2022, and over 603 billion in 2023.
The documents revealed that the tax collection on electricity is in addition to the original cost, while more than 25.7 billion from PTV fees and over 180 billion from income taxes were collected in this period.
The consumers also paid 89.69 billion rupees in additional taxes.
