Elections 2024: Scrutiny of nomination papers underway

ISLAMABAD – The scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by candidates for general elections-2024 is underway and it will continue till Saturday.

Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be submitted until the 3rd of January and decisions on these appeals will be made by the 10th of January.

The list of candidates will be displayed on the 11th of January, and candidates would have the option to withdraw by the 12th of January.

The electoral symbols will be allotted on the 13th of January, and polling for the general elections will be held on February 8.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has given more time to foreign observers who want to monitor the general elections. Now, they can submit their applications from December 31 to January 20.

In a separate development, Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi urged all political parties to stand united to contribute to country’s betterment.

Talking to a private news channel, he stressed the need to focus on the real problems of the country.

The Minister said Quaid-e-Azam’s struggle in British era is an example for today’s politicians as it never witnessed any breach of law.

He said Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah firmly believed in the rule of law even when the colonial laws were not in favor of the people. He said the way to bring any change in law lies in peaceful political struggle.

To a question, the Minister said Election Commission is an independent body that can take action on any kind of irregularity in Election 2024 results. He said the Election Commission has taken notice of the incidents of snatching of nomination papers.
