ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court on Monday declared the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) June 12 verdict related to formation of election tribunals null and void.
A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi announced the ruling while accepting a petition of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against LHC order.
In June, the high court had constituted tribunals to adjudicate petitions related to national and provincial assembly constituencies in the Feb 8 general elections.
There has been a contention between the LHC and ECP over the authority to form election tribunals.
