An elderly woman collapsed on the witness stand in the Sindh High Court in Karachi during the pursuit of her missing son’s case. Her husband desperately tried to revive her with water as she struggled to maintain consciousness.
The Sindh High Court convened to hear the petition regarding the recovery of missing citizen Sameer Afridi, summoning the Secretary of Interior Sindh and DIG Investigation to provide updates on the investigation. The court also requested a report from the Federal Secretary of Interior on the matter. Highlighting the urgency of the situation, the court emphasized the need to determine which agency had custody of the individual in question once enforced disappearance is confirmed.
The distressed mother, unable to contain her anguish, implored the court to shut down if justice couldn’t be served and truth couldn’t be revealed. Justice NaimatullahPhulpoto expressed solidarity with the grieving family, assuring them of the court’s unwavering efforts to locate their son. The government-appointed lawyer disclosed that Sameer Afridi had been forcibly disappeared, confirming his inclusion in the JIT and Task Force sessions.
Justice NaimatullahPhulpoto inquired about the whereabouts of the investigating officer, prompting the revelation that the officer was attending a meeting in Islamabad. The focal person for the Interior Ministry informed the court that a summary had been sent to the Chief Minister’s office for financial assistance to the family. Justice KhadimHussainTunio cautioned against engaging in discussions devoid of substance, emphasizing the need to prioritize the rescue of the investigating officer.
