KARACHI – Eight children were injured when a school van caught fire in Karachi, authorities reported on Monday.
The incident occurred in a van belonging to Falcon Public School.
Rescue teams said the fire erupted due to the vehicle heating up. All injured children were immediately taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where two of them are in critical condition.
Police confirmed the fire was caused by the school van overheating. Rescue officials urged vehicle operators and schools to follow safety precautions to prevent similar accidents in the future.
Vehicle safety specialists emphasize the importance of regular engine inspections, checking fuel lines, electrical systems, and cooling mechanisms to prevent fires. Many school van accidents are preventable with proper maintenance and adherence to safety protocols, including driver training and emergency preparedness measures.
Authorities have urged schools across Karachi to ensure their transport fleets are routinely checked and certified by qualified mechanics.
Parents are also advised to inquire about the safety standards of vehicles transporting their children. Officials are reviewing regulations to impose stricter penalties for schools that fail to maintain safe transport services.
