IN yet another revolutionary initiative under the umbrella of Ehsaas, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday launched Ration scheme aimed at providing a monthly subsidy of thirty percent on daily used items to twenty million deserving households.
Under this targeted subsidy program, the poor segments of the society will get flour, cooking oil, ghee and pulses on concessional rates.
There is no denying that the people are greatly perturbed over the soaring prices of essential commodities.
In fact increase in the prices of kitchen items puts an extra burden on the low income groups and the salaried class.
In this backdrop, this Ehsaas Ration Scheme will indeed provide some relief to these households.
The recent steps taken by the government including reduction in petroleum and electricity prices regardless of increase in petroleum prices in the international market clearly demonstrates that the government is cognizant of the problems faced by the common man and doing whatever it can to provide relief to them.
Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation Sania Nishtar deserves special applause for the excellent work she has done in successful and transparent execution of all the programs under Ehsaas.
Rolling out Ehsaas Ration scheme in a matter of a few months unambiguously demonstrate her passion and zeal for her work.
We have no doubt in saying that the way Sania Nishtar has steered Ehsaas program and done it impeccably, no other member from PM Khan’s cabinet could do so.The success of Ehsaas Ration scheme matters a lot in the current circumstances.
We will suggest that Ehsaas authorities should also approach Utility Stores Corporation for the launch of mobile service, especially in rural and far flung areas so that the poor households could get the subsidized items at their doorsteps.
This will also help them save their transportation cost.During Ramazan-ul-Mubarak, subsidy should be extended to other essential items, especially the ones that are mostly used in the holy month.
Mostly both the federal and provincial governments announce Ramadan packages but this time a substantial amount should be set aside for this purpose to extend maximum relief to the low and middle income groups.
