Commissioner Navid Ahmed Shaikh opened 4th National Women’s Day organised by the Sindh Commission on the Status of Women at Frere Hall on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said that Sindh government was making all out efforts for the empowerment and development of women. Government wants to make women empowered economically, socially and have equal opportunities to utilise their skills, knowledge abilities and talents to get equal status and play their role effectively and better in the society and to serve their families with dignity. He said that the setting up of the Sindh commission on the status of women is also part of the objective to support women to empower them.
He assured his full support to the Commission on the Status of Women as the Commissioner Karachi saying that the city administration would also play its role to get their objective to work for the rights and development of women mitigating gender based violence & safeguarding the interests of the women in Sindh
Later Commissioner distributed the awards among the women deserved and declared award winners by the commission for the recognition of their services for the rights and development of womenn.
On this occasion Consul General of Japan at Karachi, Special Secretary of Law Department of Government of Sindh Rubina Asif, various women activists and leaders working for the rights of women including Anis Haroon Mehnaz Rehman also attended the event.
