The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Monday decided to conduct by-elections on one seat of the National Assembly and three seats of Punjab Assembly on October 9 next.

As per the official sources, the decision was made during an important ECP meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja in the chair.

According to the details, the ECP decided to conduct by-election in Multan’s NA-157 constituency and Sheikhupura’s PP-139 constituency on October 9, 2022.

Similarly, the ECP decided to conduct by-election in Bahawalnagar’s PP-241 constituency and Khanewal’s PP-209 constituency on October 9, 2022.

The ECP also summoned a meeting on September 14 for reviewing by-polls in nine constituencies of the National Assembly.

The ECP also sought a report on the second phase of local bodies elections in Sindh and the holding of elections at some polling stations in specific districts of Balochistan from the respective governments so that the elections that had earlier been deferred due to floods could be held as early as possible.—INP
