The Election Commission of Pakistan, taking notice of complaints regarding abuse of powers by local government representatives, has warned them to refrain from ‘facilitating’ them in political activities and electioneering.
The electoral watchdog, responding to the complaints against local government representatives, issued orders to all provincial chief secretaries, and election commissioners.
The ECP in the letter refrained local body representatives from providing “manpower and government machinery” to election candidates in political activities and electioneering, noting that such facilitation was a violation of “code of conduct”.
“The representatives should refrain from facilitating candidates,” it said, adding that strict action will be taken against all violators of the ECP code.
