ISLAMABAD – The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Friday approved the provision of financial assistance to the families of missing persons.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the ECC chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. During the meeting, the Ministry of Finance briefed participants that funds amounting to Rs5.76 billion had been approved for the establishment of Danish Schools, along with the release of funds for the Youth Skill Development Programme.
The ECC also directed that the option of a public-private partnership be considered for Danish Schools. In addition, it approved an increase in the budget for development schemes in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as additional allocations for the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC).
The Ministry of Finance further informed the meeting that the ECC had instructed PTDC to present a comprehensive business plan. The committee also approved amendments to the rules of the fan replacement programme.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the revised mechanism aims to reduce electricity consumption. To address the financial issues of power distribution companies (DISCOs), Rs200 billion has been approved, while Rs6.35 billion has been sanctioned for various power sector projects.
Moreover, the ECC approved financial assistance amounting to Rs4.77 billion for 945 families of missing persons. Funds were also approved for the repair of helicopters belonging to FC Balochistan and the Rangers, as well as for the construction of 104 new family suites for members of parliament.
