Earthquake shakes parts of Karachi

KARACHI – A low-magnitude earthquake jolted port city of Karachi with tremors felt in several areas.

Details shared by National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) said tremors of 3.2 magnitude were felt in different areas of provincial capital on Monday.

Tremors were felt in Defense, Clifton, and other regions and citizens came out of their houses reciting Quranic verses in a state of fear.

Karachi Earthquake Today

Seismological Center said magnitude of earthquake was recorded at 3.2 on the Richter scale while its depth was 22 km and the epicenter was 15 km to the northeast of Karachi.

luckily, no loss of life was reported during the recent seismic activity.

Last month, earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale jolted Malir district of Karachi. NSMC confirmed that tremors were felt in Malir, Landhi, Quaidabad, Kathore and Gadap Town.

Earthquakes in Karachi are relatively rare compared to northern Pakistan, particularly those closer to tectonic plate boundaries. Karachi is situated on the edge of the Indian tectonic plate, which is relatively stable compared to areas along plate boundaries where earthquakes are more common.
