Khairpur
Cotton crop sown over hundreds of acres of land, surrounding an under-construction dam in Nara, Khairpur (Sindh), was completely inundated as one of the dam’s dykes burst open due to water pressure on Sunday.
The fast flow of water also badly damaged the heavy machinery being used for the construction of the dam besides flooding the road leading to Sawan Gas Field.
However, despite the fact that the administration was informed of the incident, none of its officials reached the site so that rescue and relief work could get underway.
It is worth-mentioning here that the government of Sindh is building a dam at the cost of Rs800 million in the area in collaboration with the World Bank for storing the rainwater.—INP
