Will Sbp Issue New Currency Notes In 2026 Check Update

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Security Printing Corporation (PSPC) has announced that the process of printing new currency notes with updated designs used to take two months.

In a statement, the PSPC revealed that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has submitted the proposed designs for the new banknotes to the federal cabinet for final approval.

PSPC further clarified that the cabinet has not yet finalized the design. Once approved, the printing of the new currency notes will begin and is expected to be completed within two months.

For example, if the new design is approved in January 2026, the printing process will be finished by the end of March 2026.

The Pakistan Security Printing Corporation (PSPC) assists the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in its currency management strategy by ensuring that the production, from printing to packaging, of banknotes and prize bonds aligns with the required specifications and denominations. Additionally, PSPC ensures timely delivery as per the schedule set by SBP-BSC.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) used to introduce new banknote series after every fifteen to twenty years to secure the integrity of banknotes.

In line with the established practice, the central bank initiated the process to launch the new currency notes in January 2024 by asking people to submit designs.

Later in July 2025, SBP Governor Jameel Ahmed confirmed that designs had been finalised but he did not reveal the designs.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has submitted the final designs to the federal government which will take the approval from the cabinet.

The process of issuance of new banknote series involves a number of steps and stages and thus requires meticulous planning and coordination amongst multiple stakeholders.

According to the central bank, it takes 2 to 3 years to launch a new banknote series. However, the SBP in a statement issued in January 2024 announced that it intended “to complete the process within the next 2 years”.

In light of the above mentioned, the SBP is expected to unveil the new currency notes next year, 2026.
