Reaffirms support for Nepal’s flood relief efforts
Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister (DPM/FM), Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Friday visited the Embassy of Nepal here and signed the Condolence Book opened in memory of those who lost their lives in the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal.
The deputy prime minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and expressed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Government and people of Nepal, a DPM’s Office news release said.
He noted that climate change is having a disproportionate impact on countries of the region, with severe consequences for lives, livelihoods and infrastructure. He prayed for the departed souls, the swift recovery of the injured, and the safety of those still missing. Reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Nepal’s relief and recovery efforts, he conveyed Pakistan’s readiness to extend all possible assistance in overcoming the consequences of this natural calamity. It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan will send emergency relief assistance to Nepal later this week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, as the death toll from catastrophic flash floods and landslides in the Himalayan country rose above 1,200.
Sharif announced the planned shipment during a visit to the Nepali embassy in Islamabad, where he signed a condolence book and reiterated Pakistan’s support for rescue and relief operations. Nepal says 1,204 bodies have been recovered since the Aug. 26 disaster, while around 4,200 people remain missing and nearly 12,000 have been rescued.
“Pakistan would be dispatching emergency relief assistance to Nepal, later this week, to support ongoing rescue and relief operations,” the Pakistani prime minister’s office said in a statement.
