LAHORE – Police in Lahore show resilience and Rule of Law, as after escorting a woman accused of blasphemy, cops now launched a case against those who harassed, and tried to assault the woman wearing a dress with Arabic calligraphy.
The case caused chaos in Pakistan and even put the country in bad light but the police in metropolis set an example by lodging case against extremists who harassed woman, after confusing Arabic alphabet and words with Quran verses.
The incident captured horrific scenes on mobile phone footage and was widely covered by international media, showing the extent of threats to a woman who was heckled by violent mob.
Daring police officer ASP Syeda Sheharbano Naqvi however played key role as she saved the woman from the charged mob.
Cops registered the case despite pressure to avoid confrontation with certain religious groups by upholding the law.
The newly elected government in Punjab also lent support to police in initiating action against miscreants, showing zero tolerance towards such incidents.
The FIR includes those who raised religious slogans to intensify the situation and put the life of the woman in danger. In light of sensitivity, the FIR has been sealed and further proceedings are underway.
