DOGU AKDENIZ-21 – Pakistan’s warship PNS Alamgir participates in multinational exercise in Turkey

KARACHI – Pakistan Navy Ship Alamgir participated in a multinational exercise, DOGU AKDENIZ-21, in AKSAZ, Turkey, said an official statement.

Vice Admiral Zahid Ilyas represented Pakistan Navy in drills. During stay, Admiral, Mission Cdr & CO called on Turkish Naval high ranking officials.

Ex DOGU AKDENIZ-21 is aimed to ensure the safety and security of seas.

PNS Alamgir also participated in bilateral exercise TURGUTREIS-VI with Turkish Navy ships wherein various tactical and seamanship drills were undertaken.

Last month, PNS Alamgir took part in a joint exercise in Egypt. The officers of Pakistan Navy and Egyptian Navy paid visits to each other and to discuss matters of mutual interest and maritime cooperation.

Earlier, the PNS Alamgir participated in a bilateral exercise with a Japanese ship Yugiri.

Under Combined Task Force 151, the PNS Alamgir also participated in a multinational anti-piracy operation.

Earlier this month, a keel-laying ceremony to start construction of the MILGEM class corvette for the Pakistan Navy was held in Karachi.

The ceremony for the Pakistan and Turkey’s joint venture at the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KSEW) – Pakistan Navy’s specialised shipbuilding division – was attended by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi, Navy officers, and representatives of Turkey’s state-run defence firm ASFAT,.

Addressing the ceremony, The Pakistan Navy chief said the production of indigenous modern warships with the help of Turkey is a proud moment for Pakistan.

He said that the joint venture will open new avenues of cooperation between Ankara and Islamabad in the field of defence production.

Induction of the MILGEM warship, the statement added, would significantly increase the operational capabilities of the Pakistan Navy.

Pakistan Navy has concluded contract with M/s ASFAT for construction of four corvettes out of which two are being constructed at Istanbul Naval Shipyard and two at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works.

These corvettes will be fitted with state of the art Surface, Sub-Surface and Anti-Air Weapons & Sensors, integrated through an advanced Network Centric Combat Management System.
