Prominent economist and Director General of NUST Institute of Policy Studies (NIPS) Dr. AshfaqueHasan said that documented economy is imperative to curb corruption.

It is the responsibility of every citizen to get registered in the taxation system so that they can get welfare benefits from the State.

He was speaking as a key-note speaker at a seminar held here at NAB Headquarters.

Dr. AshfaqHasan stated that people within informal unregistered economy remain poor as they have no access to banking incentives including loans.

He emphasized that incentivizing the tax system will yield more benefits than punitive measures.

In the occasion, Chairman NAB, Lt. Gen. (R) Nazir Ahmed has said that a sole institution cannot eradicate corruption and this menace can only be defeated through collective efforts of all stakeholders.

He reiterated that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will ensure that every act of corruption is met with consequences.

Chairman NAB stated that documentation of economy will most certainly help the country and will substantively curb corruption.

He said that NAB remains committed to the obligations of United Nations’ Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).
