Distribution Box Of Karachis Safe City Cameras Stolen Near Bilawal House

KARACHI – A distribution box crucial for Karachi’s Safe City camera system was stolen near Bilawal House, sparking concerns over the security of the city’s surveillance infrastructure.

The distribution box plays a key role in ensuring the smooth functioning of Safe City cameras, which are used to monitor and maintain security across Karachi.

Reports said that the theft, which took place on November 6, has left the cameras in the area unable to provide reliable service, though details about the incident remain scarce. Authorities are working to determine how the box was removed and to recover it.

DIG South Asad Raza noted that the distribution box was both large and heavy, making the theft a difficult task. “It is not an easy thing to steal, and we’re investigating how it was taken,” he said, adding that CCTV footage is being reviewed to gain insight into the incident.

According to eyewitnesses, a vehicle was seen being used in the stealing, suggesting that the theft involved careful planning.

Raza also highlighted the lack of security or alarm systems on the Safe City cameras and their associated equipment, which may have contributed to the ease of the crime.

Meanwhile, Director General of the Safe City Project, Asif Ijaz Shaikh, confirmed that the theft of the distribution box had led to the removal of the Safe City cameras from the area. The stolen box contained equipment worth millions of rupees, further underlining the severity of the situation.
