Weeklong display of thesis on “Autism and Healing with Art” at the College of Art and Design, Punjab University Old Campus will conclude today.
Thesis on this somewhat unique and humanitarian subject has been done by visual artist Samia Shahzad through hard hark and research for one year under supervision of Principal of College of Art and Design Dr Sumera Jawwad.
On being contacted, Samia Shahzad said that she had displayed art works of Autistic persons and my own art pieces in order to show the people that even with this issue they could function beyond normality.
She strong opposed using word abnormal for young and elder people suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and said that as a matter of fact they are differently-abled and extraordinary.
She said that after she selected thesis topic as “Autism and Healing with Art”, it remained a controversy for her as to what ASD really because the symptoms in each individual are never the same and for this reason it is called Autism Spectrum Disorder.
