Did an army officer die during Pakistan–Sri Lanka match in Rawalpindi?

ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has dismissed claims circulating on social media that a Pakistan Army officer died of a heart attack during the ongoing Pakistan–Sri Lanka cricket match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

The ministry has issued an official fact-check statement, saying the individual was an employee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), not a Pakistan Army officer.

The statement clarified that he was not present at the stadium during the match and had no involvement in the event.

The ministry said the individual suffered an electric shock, following which his family contacted Rescue 1122. He was subsequently shifted to a local hospital for medical assistance.

According to hospital records cited in the statement, the cause of death was identified as electrocution. The ministry added that further inquiry would proceed in accordance with the relevant procedures.

The statement also stressed that the individual’s employment with the PCB did not establish any connection between his death and the ongoing cricket match.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting urged the public to verify information through reliable sources before sharing claims that could be misleading.
