Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce, Jam Ikramullah Dharejo, has lauded the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) for its remarkable contributions to advancing the accountancy profession across the region. Speaking at the ICMA’s SAFA International Conference 2024, Dharejo highlighted SAFA’s role in fostering collaboration and maintaining high standards of excellence over the past 40 years.
Addressing the conference, Dharejo emphasized the importance of sustainable economic growth, noting that Sindh has been at the forefront of promoting innovation, particularly in renewable energy and digital infrastructure. He cited the Thar Coal Power Plant and solar energy initiatives as examples of the government’s commitment to green industries and sustainable development.
The conference, hosted by the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMA), featured panel discussions with key industry figures from across South Asia. Attendees discussed a wide range of topics, including carbon pricing, technology, and their roles in driving sustainable economic models. Awais Yasin, Company Secretary at Diamer Bhasha Development Company – WAPDA, moderated a key panel discussion featuring prominent figures such as Mehtab Uddin Ahmed, Vice President of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh, and Yasir Ashfaq, CEO of Pakistan Microfinance Investment Company. Other panelists included Kashif Shehzad of TMC, Tariq Sultan of Pathfinder Group, Omer Khan Ghaznavi of Fatima Group, Muhammad Younas of Fatima Group, Muhammad Amin Rajput of SSGC, and Farhan Tahir of PMEX. The discussions covered critical industry developments, with Sindh’s Minister of Industries and Commerce, Jam Ikram Ullah Khan Dharejo, addressing the audience on future directions.
The afternoon session featured another panel, moderated by Abdul Wasey Khan, Former Vice President of ICMA, and included contributions from Shehzad Ahmed Malik, President of ICMA, and Heshana Kuruppu, President of SAFA. The focus shifted to carbon pricing and its role in driving sustainable economic models, with Khalid Mumtaz of Bahria University delivering the keynote address. Ather Saleem of the Anti-Dumping Appellate Tribunal, Government of Pakistan, moderated the final discussion, bringing together voices like Assad Hameed Khan of ACCA (Pakistan) and Faisal Qureshi of PARCO.
