The Sindh government is set to boost its Covid-19 testing capacity as a consignment containing 50,000 new kits have reached the provincial capital on Sunday. According to details, the provincial government procured these kits to ramp up its capacity to test more suspected patients of coronavirus that has infected more than 1,300 people across the province with 28 deaths from the contagion so far. Sources said the provincial government purchased these kits on its own as it aims to enhance testing in coronavirus hotspots in the sprawling port city and other districts of the province. Expressing his concerns over a sharp spike in the cases of COVID19, he said, “The number shows that 20 per cent of the total COVID-19 tests conducted in the past 24 hours came out positive.” “This is greater than the world average at the moment,” CM Murad said and added that six people have died of the virus today. In an effort to facilitate the masses, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Sunday directed to deploy mobile testing units in coronavirushit areas of the province. Presiding over a high-level meeting on coronavirus, CM Murad Ali Shah ordered to provide mobile testing in the areas severely affected by the pandemic. He maintained that they will gradually expand the system to other areas. On the occasion, the chief minister directed to provide COVID-19 testing kits to different healthcare facilities and laboratories to facilitate the masses. He maintained that currently they were conducting 750 tests daily. The meeting was told that testing capacity in Sindh has increased to 3,520 tests per day. Earlier on April 7, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Affairs DrZafarMirza had said that they will increase the number of testing facilities in the country and soon 32 laboratories will be performing coronavirus tests.
