Dengue is spreading at an alarming rate in Pakistan, with the hospitals witnessing hike in the number of patients in the past few days.
According to PIMS hospital spokesperson, more than 60 patients reached the hospital and seven of them are in critical condition.
Islamabad’s Polyclinic hospital spokesperson said that 127 Dengue patients have been admitted there, taking the tally to 3,500 during the last one month in the federal capital.
In Faisalabad, two more Dengue patients, Ahmed Jamal and Ibtisam, reached Allied Hospital due to which the total number of cases has reached 94 across the city.
Dr Masooma Sardar, hospital’s focal person, informed that the condition of five Dengue patients is out of danger. In Multan, the number of dengue cases is on the rise as 21 new patients have reported during the last 24 at Nishtar Hospital. On the other hand, Special Assistant on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza said under directions of the Prime Minister steps are being taken on an emergency basis to control the outbreak of dengue fever. Speaking at a meeting regarding dengue in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said the “dengue patients are being provided with free medical treatment facilities in hospitals.”
“Over 90 per cent dengue patients are not required to be admitted in hospitals,” Dr Zafar said. He requested the dengue patients to bring National Identity Cards and provide their address to the staff of the hospital so that the surveillance teams could ensure anti-dengue spray around their houses.
“Mostly the dengue cases are being reported in Islamabad and Rawalpindi,” the Special Assistant said and added that all the stakeholders and the administration are cooperative to eradicate the dengue virus.—INP
