Delegation of National Institute of Oceanography visits KATI

Director General of National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Dr. Nuzhat said that economic prosperity is directly linked with safe oceans, while she was addressing a meeting held at Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI).
President KATI Danish Khan, Senior Vice President Faraz-ur-Rehman, Vice President Maheen Salman, Head of KATI’s standing committee on R&D Syed Wajid Hussain, Former Presidents Gulzar Firoz, Farukh Mazhar, Akbar Farooqui and others welcomed the delegation of NIO headed by its DG.
President KATI Danish Khan said that there is need to establish working relation between academia and industry, it is the only way to find long term solutions for the industry and the economic hardships of our country.
He said that world has been moved to the concept of “Blue Economy” where oceans were the center point of the economic strategies of big economies.
He also briefed the delegation about Korangi Industrial Area.
DG NIO Dr. Nuzhat said that oceans provide us food and low cost trade routes, and if any country wants to strengthen its economy, oceans should be the main focus of research and development. She urged that dumping of waste in sea especially plastic causing a great threat to our ecosystem, business community should come forward to spread awareness in this regard. She also invited KATI office bearer to visit NIO.
Head of KATI’s Standing Committee on R&D Syed Wajid Hussain applauded the contribution of NIO in research and development sector. He said that NIO can provide basic planning for establishing small industries related to sea food and plants.
He further said that unfortunately R&D is the most neglected area and there is need to create a cooperation between researchers and business community. Dr Samina Qidwai also addressed the gathering.
