Employers’ associations are essential in providing strong representation and promoting decent working conditions for all their members, emphasized EFP Secretary General Syed Nazar Ali during a capacity-building session for the Mehar Agriculture Employers (Landlords) Association (MAEA).  The session, organized by the Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP) with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO), was held in Hyderabad. Syed Nazar Ali highlighted the pivotal role of EFP in advocating for fundamental principles and rights at work (FPRW) to safeguard workers’ rights, enhance business sustainability, and foster sustainable economic development.

He stressed the urgent need for a strong voice to improve the visibility of the informal agriculture sector on international platforms and detailed how EFP serves as a valuable networking tool, facilitating connections and collaborations. Participants were also informed about the legal and advisory services offered by EFP to help members comply with regulations and improve industrial relations. QaziWajidMahesar, President of MAEA, expressed gratitude to the EFP and ILO for bringing international attention to the significance of employer- represented organizations in Sindh, particularly for small-scale farmers.

He praised EFP’s efforts in promoting fair employment conditions that support business sustainability. Mahesar highlighted the financial struggles faced by small landowners and emphasized that empowering employers would benefit their workers, creating a robust system that enhances economic conditions and eradicates unacceptable forms of work. He explained that strengthening agricultural associations would provide them with a collective voice and generate social justice for all workers.

Participants shared their perspectives on improving working conditions in the informal agriculture sector. They brainstormed ideas and urged EFP to assist them in advocating for supportive legislation to address these issues, underscoring the importance of decent work for sustainable development.
