Christian Colony gas leakage blast
The newly-wed couple—Sharoon and Mehak—killed in the January 11 blast caused due to gas leakage in the Christian Colony of Sector G-7/2 were buried in the H-8/1 Christians Graveyard here on Monday. Six others, four family members and two neighbours who also lost their lives in the tragic incident were also laid to rest at the resting place.
Earlier, upon arrival of the dead bodies from the hospital emotional scenes were witnessed. Relatives, friends and community members in a large number attended the prayer ceremony held at the Community Ground of the Sector G-7/2.
Local pastors and bishops led the prayers and offered condolences to the aggrieved families. A CDA’s team of the Building Control Department has already sealed two houses damaged severely due to the gas blast. The two residential structures would remain sealed unless a structural clearance is issued, said an official of the CDA.
A notice issued by the authority says: “This premises has been sealed. The house has been declared non-livable as it possesses a serious risk to life and property. Entry into the house is strictly prohibited until necessary repairs, structural reinforcement.”
Among the dead included two real brothers Naeem Masih and Yaqoob Masih who were employees in the Maintenance Department of the Captial Development Authority. The bridegroom Sharoon was also a sanitary worker of the CDA.
While talking to Pakistan Observer, Chaudhry Yasin, President of the CDA Employees Union assured all out steps would be taken for early compensation of the deceased and the injured in the incident.
For the CDA Employees, he said Prime Minister’s Package and the CDA’s service benefits would be sanctioned, but for that their service period would be taken into consideration.
According to sources, Additional Secretary Interior along with members of the SNGP and the CDA have been nominated as members of the inquiry committee that would submit its report after that compensation package would be announced. CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa a day earlier had assured the government’s complete support to the families of the deceased and all out steps to look after the injured.
