ISLAMABAD – The deadlock between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the federal government over the draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment has continued, as coalition partners failed to reach a consensus during the recent cabinet consultations, sources said.
The insiders said that the federal cabinet meeting had been convened to review and approve the draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment and to brief the cabinet members on its key provisions.
However, disagreement among the coalition partners prevented approval of the draft.
Sources disclosed that the PPP has conveyed its reservations to the government, while other coalition partners — including the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Muslim League (Q) — have signaled their support for the proposed amendment.
Party insiders said the PPP will hold internal consultations before proposing changes to the draft and informing the government of its final stance.
Sources further indicated that the next meeting of the federal cabinet will be scheduled once consensus is achieved among all ruling coalition partners on the revised draft of the constitutional amendment.
