Senior Member Board of Revenue Punjab/Relief Commissioner Babar Hayat Tarar has directed all the divisional commissioners to ensure effective monitoring of whole activities of rain water drainage, elimination of encroachment in rivers and particularly desilting of watercourses.
He was chairing a meeting to review the necessary measures for timely drainage of rainwater during monsoon and protection from possible floods on Friday at Punjab Disaster Management Authority’s head office.
The meeting was attended by PDMA Director General Raja Khurram Shehzad Umar, Operations director, Field DDMCs and divisional commissioners from different districts.
The divisional commissioners briefed the meeting in detail about the steps taken so far for drainage of rain water and flood control in their respective divisions.
They informed the meeting that all the concerned departments including WASA have been activated to clean the watercourses and canals and eliminate encroachments in the rivers in different districts.
The SMBR directed all the divisional commissioners to ensure effective monitoring of whole activities of rain water drainage, elimination of encroachment in rivers and particularly desilting of watercourses.
Earlier, the relief commissioner during a one-on-one briefing with all the divisional commissioners also discuss the issues of divisional commissioners and suggest the action plan accordingly.
