Day long intermittent rain in city takes two lives

A day long intermittent rain in the provincial capital on Friday led to some incidents of roof collapse causing death of two women.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in its report said that a total of 176 people have died across Pakistan and thousands left homeless due to the heavy monsoon rains.

Sporadic rain showered different parts of Lahore on Friday morning. The weather turned pleasant due to rain and cool breeze.

Different areas of Lahore including Township, Model Town, Kacha Jail Road, Kot Lakhpat, Chungi Amar Sadhu, Ichhra, Canal Road, Faisal Town, Bagrian, Garhi Shahu, and Gulberg received a pleasant spell of rain.

The rain also showered other areas including Islampura, Gawalmandi, Lakshmi Chowk, Railway Station, Mall Road, Muslim Town, Anarkali, and Urdu Bazaar.During an incident of the roof collapse in Farrukhabad area of Shahdara, Lahore in which a woman died. The deceased was identified as 70-year-old Hanifa Bibi.

The husband and the son of the deceased woman went to the mosque for Fajr prayers when the roof which was made of TR Garder collapsed, said the rescue workers.

In Narowal, the roof of a house collapsed due to heavy rain in Badha Pind village.

According to Rescue 1122, the woman died on the spot after being crushed under the rubble of the roof. The deceased was identified as Shamim Akhtar.

Massive floods have killed a total of 176 people across Pakistan and left thousands homeless due to heavy monsoon rains, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.
