Danish Envoy Hosts Event To Celebrate Pakistans Soulful Music

The newly arrived Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan, Ms MajaDerrous Mortensen, hosted her first official event at her residence – an evening of music and friendship featuring the Denmark-Pakistan Musical Exchange Tour.

The gathering brought together a wide range of Denmark’s partners in Pakistan, including government representatives, development cooperation partners, private-sector and trade stakeholders, cultural and arts communities, and members of the diplomatic corps. The event provided the Ambassador with a unique opportunity to meet and connect with partners from across diverse sectors in one welcoming setting. The event took place just three days after the Ambassador formally presented her credentials to the President of Pakistan.

The guests enjoyed an inspiring live performance by Danish musicians collaborating with young artists from the Leif Larsen Music Center (LLMC) from Hunza, as well as the qawwali group Sawaal from Lahore. Their shared musical expression showcased the creativity that emerges when Danish and Pakistani talent comes together, underscoring the strong cultural bonds that complement the broader relationship between the two countries.

While Denmark’s primary focus remains climate action, sustainable infrastructure, green transition, and enhancing bilateral trade – cultural initiatives like the Musical Exchange Tour help celebrate and deepen the more than 75 years of strong people-to-people connections between Denmark and Pakistan.

Earlier, in a video clip posted on social media, the Danish ambassador said she was excited to explore Pakistan as she has already experienced the wonderful hospitality extended to her by the people of Pakistan. Denmark, she said in the short video, is a country deeply committed to ‘going greener, leading in clean energy and sustainability,’ said she in the video adding that Pakistan shared the same vision for a greener and cleaner future.

She said she was learning new skills particularly ‘cricketing’ and hopefully will master in Babar Azam’s cover drive one day.

On trade and investment she said trade is another key area that connects Denmark and Pakistan as over 50 Danish companies are operating in Pakistan in shipping, food & agriculture, healthcare and green energy. Denmark and Pakistan are together for a sustainable future, she said.

Ambassador Mortensen is also keen to explore Pakistan and connect with its people and fascinated by Pakistan’s culture and diversity. “My journey is just started and I cannot wait to experience more,” she said.
