Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Peshawar Monday claimed to have arrested four culprits involved in the killing of Chinese engineers in Bisham District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a month back.

It may be recalled that in an extremely gory incident, a suicide explosion targeting foreigner’s vehicle on Karakoram Highway in Bisham district Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on March 26 had left at least six people including five engineers of the brotherly country China dead. Those killed also include a Chinese female. The Chinese were on their way from Islamabad to Dasu Dam in upper Kohistan where they were working at the gigantic Dasu Hydropower Project being carried out with the help of China and is close to completion.

In the aftermath of the attack, Chinese companies overseeing operations at the sites of the Dasu and Diamer-Bhasha Dams temporarily suspended civil work at both sites owing to security concerns. Around 991 Chinese engineers were working on both projects, while the local staff had been told to stay at home till further instructions, an official working on the project had confirmed.

The Counter-Terrorism Department Peshawar officials claimed they have made a significant progress in ongoing probe into a fierce suicide attack on Chinese engineers in Bisham. The CTD said the arrested terrorists were associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other terrorists of their same network were also identified, the CTD spokesperson said.

Identified as mastermind Adil Shehbaz, Muhammad Shafiq Qureshi, Zahid Qureshi, and Nazeer Hussain, the arrested suspects hail from the Mansehra district.
