THE high-level dialogue between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar in Beijing reaffirms a truth that history has repeatedly demonstrated: the friendship between the two countries is truly ironclad.

Through changing geopolitical tides, economic hardships and regional tensions, including the recent episode of conflict with India, China has consistently stood shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan, upholding a bond rooted in trust, mutual respect and strategic cooperation.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s push for an “upgraded version” of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is not just a diplomatic gesture—it is a strategic roadmap for Pakistan’s future.

His emphasis on expanding bilateral cooperation into vital sectors such as industry, agriculture, energy, mineral resources, human resource development, counter-terrorism and security represents a shared commitment to deepening our all-weather strategic partnership.

The CPEC has already made a transformative impact on Pakistan.

From the construction of critical road networks to much-needed investment in power generation, the first phase of CPEC laid the groundwork for infrastructural progress.

It is a matter of great satisfaction that in the second phase, cooperation is set to be broadened into new and essential sectors like agriculture and industry—key pillars for sustainable economic growth.

China’s willingness to accelerate work on this upgraded CPEC should be matched by our own readiness and resolve.

There must be no delay on Pakistan’s part.

We must ensure that Chinese businesses are fully facilitated in setting up operations in Pakistan.

Streamlining bureaucratic processes, ensuring security and providing regulatory certainty are crucial steps to attract Chinese investment.

Particularly, Chinese support in the agriculture sector offers a golden opportunity to enhance our agricultural productivity, introduce modern farming techniques and improve food security.

One of the most critical infrastructure projects—the upgradation of the railway line from Karachi to Peshawar—continues to face prolonged delays.

This project is not merely a transportation initiative; it is a gateway to deeper regional connectivity, linking Pakistan to Central Asian states and beyond.

Prioritizing this railway project will enhance trade, boost logistics and significantly elevate Pakistan’s strategic importance in regional commerce.

With China’s strategic focus and Pakistan’s pressing need for economic revival, the upgraded version of CPEC can serve as a foundation for a stronger, self-reliant Pakistan.

It is now up to us to match China’s seriousness with our own unwavering commitment, turning friendship into prosperity for generations to come.
