The Lahore High Court on Wednesday acquitted all the seven accused in a case regarding attack on former prime minister Shaukat Aziz.
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) had awarded death sentence to four accused and life term to three others on May 22, 2006. However, the LHC Rawalpindi Bench overturned the verdict ruling the prosecution failed to prove the case.
The verdict was announced by a divisional bench consisting of Justice Shahid Mahmood Abbasi and Justice Sadiq Mahmood Khurram.
The ATC had handed down death sentences to four people namely: Qari Ahmad Khan, Maulvi Siddique, Noor Badshah and Muhammad Zubair. It had also awarded life terms to three real brothers: Manan, Basit and Nisar Ahmad.—INP
