IN the politically charged environment, where tensions between the ruling party and opposition parties often dominate headlines, the meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi stands out as a refreshing example of pragmatism.
While the political landscape remains deeply divided, particularly between the PML-N and PTI, the meeting between these two leaders offers a much-needed reminder of the importance of cooperation in governance, especially when the stakes are high for public safety and provincial development.

As PM Shehbaz rightly pointed out, the provincial government must accelerate efforts to maintain law and order, and in doing so, should strengthen its institutions, particularly those responsible for counter-terrorism. Such challenges cannot be overcome in isolation; they require a concerted effort where both the federal and provincial leaderships collaborate, exchange ideas and implement joint strategies. The meeting also provided an opportunity to CM Sohail Afridi to raise the province’s concerns. One expects that concrete steps will be taken to address them. In the realm of politics, differing ideologies will always persist. However, the focus should now be on building a working relationship between the federal and KP governments to address the immediate and long-term needs of the province.
