NEW DEHLI – A major controversy has erupted in India following the release of the trailer for Sardaar Ji 3, a film starring internationally renowned Indian singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh and popular Pakistani actress Hania Aamir.
The trailer, which was released just a day ago by Dosanjh, has sparked widespread backlash in India. According to a report by NDTV, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has announced a complete boycott of the film. Furthermore, the trailer has been blocked on YouTube in India.
In light of recent tensions between India and Pakistan, the FWICE has called for a total ban on Diljit Dosanjh and all his future projects, and has also urged authorities to blacklist the film’s producers.
FWICE President B.N. Tiwari, in an interview with Indian media, stated, “By working with a Pakistani actress, Diljit Dosanjh has hurt the sentiments of the Indian public. He has disrespected the sacrifices of our brave soldiers. At a time when the country is facing sensitive circumstances, his choice to collaborate with a Pakistani artist raises serious questions about his loyalty.”
Tiwari further warned, “If the film is released anywhere, we will issue directives for a non-cooperation movement. We will ensure that Diljit Dosanjh is unable to secure work—whether in films or concerts—anywhere in India.”
Due to growing opposition and potential protests in India, the Sardaar Ji 3 team has decided to release the film exclusively in overseas markets.
Sardaar Ji 3 is a comedy, fantasy, and horror film in which Dosanjh plays a ghost-hunting character. The film is scheduled for a worldwide release on June 27, 2025, but will not be released in India.
The backlash comes in the wake of the recent Pahalgam incident, after which Indian authorities had already imposed restrictions on the social media accounts of several Pakistani artists.
