Construction of new Hub Canal, to rehabilitate old Hub Canal launched

Efforts of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, a project has been launched to construct a new Hub Canal and rehabilitate the old Hub Canal to further increase water supply in District West and District Keamari, work on the project is progressing rapidly and will be completed within the next year. The Hub Canal project includes upgrading the Hub Pumping Station, Rising Main, and Hub Filter Plant from 80 MGD to 100 MGD, The project’s cost is Rs. 12.76 billion, which is a fixed cost.

This project will significantly improve water supply in Karachi city, especially in West District and Keamari.

These views were expressed by COO KWSC Engineer Asadullah Khan during a meeting with the delegation led by Provincial Deputy Ameer of JUI Qari Muhammad Usman.

On this occasion, the central leader of JUI informed the KWSC officials about the various problems of water supply and sewerage in Site Maripur Baldia Mominabad Orangi and Manghopir Town and said that all the problems should be solved on priority basis.

COO KWSC assured central leader JUI of immediate redressal of all grievances and directed concerned officers on the spot to resolve all issues on priority basis.

He said that on the instructions of the Mayor of Karachi, various projects are underway for the improvement of the city, the completion of which will bring about significant improvement.

He said that the city currently needs 1200 million gallons of water per day, but in contrast, only 650 million gallons of water is currently available in the KWSC system, which is being distributed fairly throughout the city, while the KWSC is working day and night to improve water supply and sewerage across the city, because providing better facilities to citizens is one of our top priorities.

During the meeting, the JUI leader thanked the KWSC officials and expressed the hope that the KWSC would leave no stone unturned in taking more effective steps to ensure fair distribution in the city despite the current shortage of water.
