The unprecedented speed (almost 16 hours) with which the Chinese construction company completed the first building of 1,000-bed hospital in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province demonstrates the Chinese government’s concerns for its people affected with the deadly coronavirus.
The hospital is estimated to be completed within nine days, a record time period for construction of a fully-equipped hospital.
According to a senior official of the Chinese Foreign Office, the work in Wuhan is in full swing and thousands of the Chinese workers with heavy machinery and material are working day-and-night to complete the hospital before the deadline.
An area of 25,000 square metres has been earmarked for the construction of the hospital that will be admitting and treating coronavirus patients once completed.
This is the same construction company—China State Construction Engineering—that earlier successfully carried out mega projects in Pakistan including Centaurus Shopping Mall in Islamabad and Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M5) under China Pakistan Economic Corridor now building hospital in Central Chinese province of Hubei.
Former Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) of the Embassy of China in Pakistan Lijian Zhao who is currently working as Deputy Director General, Information Department, China’s Foreign Affairs in a tweet shared the resilience and commitment of the Chinese engineers, workers, doctors and para-medical staff who, according to him are working tirelessly to provide relief and care to the growing number of patients in Wuhan city and erstwhile.
In his tweet, Lijian Zaho says, “Chinese speed. Infrastructure maniac. Wuhan’s 1000-bed Coronavirus hospital, Huoshenshan hospital, will be completed in 9 days. It will be handed over after one day of medical equipment installation.”
The hospital will be a state-of-the-art, said he adding, “We are racing against time.
The 1st building of Wuhan’s Coronavirus hospital, Huoshenshan hospital, was completed in 16 hours. China Construction which built the hospital is the same company which built the Multan-Sukkur Motorway and the Centaurus. Let’s pray for Wuhan & China!” said the former DCM in Pakistan.
