Light rain with snowfall over the mountains is expected in the upper parts of Pakistan on Friday, December 5.
The rain, though light, and snowfall will cause a decrease in day temperatures by 01°C to 03°C in the upper parts of the country.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a shallow westerly wave prevails over the western/upper parts of Pakistan and is moving north-eastwards.
Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of Pakistan and very cold in hilly areas on Thursday night. However, partly cloudy to cloudy weather is likely in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab and northern Balochistan. Smog will likely persist over the plain areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while fog may develop at a few places.
On Friday, light rain with light snowfall over the mountains is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram). Smog will likely persist over the plain areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while fog may develop at a few places during morning and night hours.
Impacts: Day temperatures may drop by 01°C to 03°C in upper areas. Snowfall may cause slippery conditions and closures of roads leading to Babusar. Smog/fog may affect transportation in Punjab and KP.
Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours. Very cold conditions prevailed over hilly areas. Smog with fog in patches during night/morning hours persisted in the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
