Along Pakistan’s coastline, the relentless chopping of mangrove trees, meticulously planted by environmental authorities and NGOs, persists despite concerted conservation efforts. These resilient trees, crucial for environmental balance and acting as natural barriers against tsunamis and cyclones, face ongoing threats due to illegal deforestation.

Mangrove forests are not merely scenic additions to the coastline; they are lifelines for countless aquatic species, including prawns and various fish. Despite their ecological significance, allegations abound of complicity among some officials, perpetuating the destruction of these vital ecosystems.

In a bid to bolster mangrove populations, environmentalists, civil society activists, and representatives from growers’ organizations converged on Khedewari Island along the KetiBunder coastline.

This collaborative effort, reminiscent of past achievements, aimed to break records in mangrove plantation. Notably, on July 15, 2009, a Guinness World Record was set with 451,176 ‘Rhizophoramucronata’ mangrove saplings planted in a single day.
