LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underwent major surgical procedure at Sharif Medical City Hospital, sparking widespread concern and intense public interest among party leaders and workers.
Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb shared the update on social media, saying CM was admitted to hospital for what she described as a “major operation,” though authorities have deliberately withheld specific medical details, citing the privacy of the patient.
After the procedure, CM was shifted into a recovery phase and later discharged from the hospital. Chief Minister has been advised rest following her discharge.
Maryam Nawaz remained actively engaged with governance matters before the surgery on Eid ul Azha. According to Aurangzeb, CM continued to monitor key provincial responsibilities during Eid, including security arrangements, cleanliness drives, and other administrative operations—at times reportedly overseeing affairs directly from the hospital.
The minister further said Maryam Nawaz remained in constant contact with senior officials throughout her treatment, staying fully updated on developments across Punjab even during her hospital stay.
The news triggered a wave of concern and goodwill messages, with ministers, party leaders, and supporters expressing prayers and wishing her a swift and full recovery.
Punjab CM earlier received medical treatment abroad on multiple occasions, mainly in UK and Geneva for throat and gland-related health issues.
In Geneva, she underwent a successful throat surgery in January 2023, during which doctors operated on her throat glands in a procedure that lasted several hours. She traveled there from London and was reported to be in stable condition after the operation before returning to Pakistan.
She has also made other visits to Geneva for follow-up treatment and check-ups, particularly related to recurring throat or gland complications, with reports indicating continued specialist care in Switzerland in later years.
Maryam Nawaz had medical history involving throat, thyroid, or gland-related conditions, with occasional follow-up treatment abroad.
