The Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the Competitive and Livable City of Karachi (CLICK) project organized a two-day training session focused on the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) at Hotel Mehran, Karachi. Held on the 28th and 29th of August 2024, the session gathered contractors, project managers, and professionals specializing in environmental and social safeguards to strengthen their knowledge and application of ESMP guidelines.

The training was inaugurated by the Deputy Project Director (DPD) Mr. Zain-ulAbdin Mirani of the CLICK project, who delivered the opening statement, emphasizing the importance of adhering to environmental and social safeguards in all project activities.

He was accompanied by social, environmental, and technical experts from the CLICK project, who also contributed their expertise throughout the sessions. During the training, participants were introduced to the objectives of the CLICK project, key features of the ESMP, and World Bank environmental and social safeguard requirements. The sessions were designed to cover a wide range of topics, including occupational health and safety management, community health and safety, gender-based violence, and labor and working conditions at project sites.

Special focus was placed on the importance of environmental monitoring, compliance reporting, and the implementation of project-specific grievance redress mechanisms (GRM) to ensure that all concerns are addressed in a timely and effective manner.

The training concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, recognizing the participants’ commitment to ensuring that all aspects of environmental and social management are upheld in the CLICK project’s ongoing and future activities. The Competitive and Livable City of Karachi (CLICK) project is a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and overall livability of Karachi.

The project is implemented with a focus on ensuring that all activities are conducted in compliance with international environmental and social safeguard standards.
